From 28 – 30 June, the Involve team had the pleasure of attending the LGA Conference 2022 in Harrogate. LGA has been labelled ‘the biggest event in the local government calendar’ and gives its delegates, speakers and exhibitors the opportunity to discuss the latest issues affecting the local government.
The Involve team spoke to delegates about video appointments by Attend Anywhere, 24-7 NHS video-enabled clinical care for care homes by Immedicare and remote BSL interpretation and translation by Involve Interpreter. The event was a fantastic opportunity to meet the people working in local authority and discuss the range of innovative services that are provided by Involve each day. It was refreshing to see how committed to digital transformation councils are, and we’re excited to support councils on this journey.
Two of our BSL Interpreter team, Andrew and Jacqueline, provided free bitesize Deaf Awareness sessions, teaching visitors some quick tips and hints to support their communication skills and confidence when speaking to Deaf people. These sessions were extremely popular and kept our stand busy for the three days, with people complimenting the sessions on how insightful they were. Councillor Jude Deakin said the sessions were “very interesting and informative.”
We were delighted to have Councillor Lee Mason join us for a Deaf Awareness session. Speaking about his experience with BSL, Lee said “I enjoyed the opportunity to chat in sign language again and from personal experience I know the difficulty my brother, who was profoundly deaf, often had in accessing services and accessing translators. People often wrongly think with cochlear implants there is no longer a need but there is still much need for BSL support.”
The team was even given the opportunity to chat to Rishi Sunak about the Involve Interpreter and Attend Anywhere service. Not only was the conference a huge success for Involve, but it was also extremely enjoyable for our team, and we can’t wait for LGA 2023 in Bournemouth.
