The Darzi report was released on 12 September 2024. Commissioned by the UK government, the report critically assesses the current state of the NHS, highlighting systemic failures exacerbated by austerity, mismanagement, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Moving forward, it emphasises the need for digitisation, innovation and a continued shift towards providing care closer to home.

In response to the report, the government has outlined three shifts it intends to prioritise over the next ten years:

– From hospital to community care
– From analogue to digital
– From treating sickness to preventing it

Rachel Binks, Nurse consultant and clinical lead for digital and acute care, said “At Immedicare, we are proud to be pioneers in virtual care and digital health technology – we have been working hard to improve the health of care home residents using digital solutions for over a decade. We welcome the next steps set out in the Darzi report, which align closely with our services and values, and we look forward to working with partners across the country to provide high-quality care as they seek to implement these recommendations.”

Our shared priorities

From hospital to community care
At Immedicare, we hold community care at our heart. Our Immedicare service helps more care home residents get professional clinical care at home in their community – helping reduce hospital admissions and meeting the needs of care home residents.

From analogue to digital
As a digital first service, our team of NHS clinicians, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and healthcare support workers provide essential additional capacity for care homes 365 days a year, especially out-of-hours, when risk to resident safety increases. Combined with our technology team we provide safe care from our dedicated digital care hub.

From treating sickness to preventing it
Our Pharmacy Service provides a falls prevention medicines optimisation service focussing on reducing medication which can increase risk of further falls. Prescribers in the hub support residents to access medication promptly to treat minor ailments and acute illness, reducing the risk of deterioration and improving patient outcomes.
