Nightingale Hall care home is a residential home in Richmond, North Yorkshire with 42 beds. We recently spoke to Kaye Banks, Deputy Manager, about their experience of receiving support from Immedicare.

“The Immedicare service has been life-changing for our home, residents and their families. We can use the service for anything we are concerned about. Being able to video call the team 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, gives reassurance to everyone in the home. Working in partnership with Immedicare, the resident and their family we can jointly decide on the best outcome for the individual. Our calls are answered quickly, and staff feel supported and reassured.  We love the Immedicare service and don’t know what we would do without it. If a resident has fallen, Immedicare assesses them quickly, checking if the resident is safe to move. That means we don’t have to wait for an ambulance – and if an ambulance is needed, Immedicare calls one for us. Staff feel supported to make decisions, which gives them confidence.

Our residents and their families love the service too. Immedicare clinicians are available to speak to them 24/7 to provide reassurance and support. This has avoided lots of hospital admissions, keeping the residents at home. Our team are also accompanying residents to A&E less frequently, which reduces the pressure on our staff. Immedicare clinicians are very supportive – they call us back a few hours later to check how the resident and the team are doing, which we really appreciate.

Covid was an especially difficult time in care homes as nobody was able to come out or visit the home. Immedicare was like our guardian angel – there to support us through a very difficult time.

We recently contacted Immedicare at 5am to ask for support with a dressing. The clinician watched us, checked we were using the right dressing and talked us through how to apply it. Previously we would have called the local district nursing team, but using the Immedicare service means we have taken some of the pressure off our busy community teams. Additionally, we can call at 5am and get the support the resident needs there and then.

We also value the falls service and used it recently for a resident who was having lots of falls – Immedicare contacted the GP on our behalf to arrange a visit. The virtual verification of expected death is fantastic and supportive as it allows the resident to move in a dignified and timely manner.
