How does the use of telemedicine help care home residents?

As part of a service review, members of the Immedicare team contacted care and residential homes using our telemedicine to find out how they found using the service.

We were pleased to find the care homes saw a decrease in hospital admissions and GP visits, with one care home avoiding on average 10 GP visits per month, and another care home saw 4 less hospital visits per month since implementing Immedicare. These avoided GP visits and hospital admissions can save care home staff and residents a lot of time and stress, whilst reducing costs for the NHS.



Reducing the amount of hospital and GP visits is a major benefit telemedicine can give, as these visits can be tiring and stressful for residents. “Having telemedicine makes it easier for the residents to remain in their home and allows our residents to be more involved in their care” said Lisa Mallinder, Deputy Manager at Stone Gables Residential Home.

We asked Julie Whittaker, Deputy Manager at Oulton Residential Home if she would recommend telemedicine “I would definitely recommend telemedicine to other care homes. If we have a resident that has fallen or is feeling unwell, the service is instant, and they can see the resident, which avoids having to try and explain over the telephone or wait for a GP or Ambulance”.

Karen Johnson, Garthforth Unit Manager and Jean, Senior at Colton Lodges Nursing Home discussed their view on the service “I think all nursing homes should have telemedicine. We gave a demonstration to our other 3 units here on site (2 x nursing and 1 x dementia) and they said they would really appreciate having telemedicine installed.”

“I would definitely recommend telemedicine to other homes. It has stopped GP calls and is preventing hospital admissions. said Richard, Senior at Bywater Hall Residential Home.

Sarah, Senior Carer at Rievaulx House Residential Home said “I would recommend telemedicine to absolutely anybody, it is brilliant and a fantastic resource to have.”
